Game Summary – Kurosaki Ranmaru Route A from Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret

Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Bouquet 1

This is part of a series of summaries of the routes in Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret. Heavy spoilers for the game and Uta no Prince-sama All Star ahoy!

Today’s covers Kurosaki Ranmaru’s Route A. Unlike the other games, the senpai each have two routes, one for each song. Each route has two endings. The first ending is the one you get if your love or music meter is below 80%.

My Japanese is limited, so apologies if I misunderstood anything. If I got something wrong, please feel free to tell me.

Warning: long post ahead! Line breaks correspond with the end of a chapter.

Haruka has been working at the agency for over two years. She has to go to the agency.

She can hear voices arguing. Ranmaru is accusing Camus of not putting enough power into the song. Camus blames Ranmaru for throwing off the balance of the song. They go back and forth for a while, with Ranmaru saying the heart is the most important part while Camus says the other needs to think more. Reiji finally interrupts them and tries to calm them down. He asks Ai for help. Ai says that they always do this. Ai points out that Reiji fell at their previous live. Reiji is like, “My bad! But accidents spice things up!” Ai still doesn’t feel the need to stop them, but he finally agrees to Reiji’s pleas. Ai distracts Camus by asking about unusual sweets while Reiji distracts Ranmaru with the promise of Kotobuki Bentou samples. After things settle down, they four invite Haruka inside. They wonder why she was hiding. They’re all waiting for Shining. Haruka thinks about how Quartet Night was formed.Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Quartet NightShining suddenly busts in and announces the four are going to sing solo songs. Quartet Night has no problem with that. Then he wonders why Haruka is there.

Reiji and Camus want to know, too. Ranmaru says he called her because she’s his composer. Camus states she should have said so earlier. Ranmaru mutters it’s because of Camus’s scary face. Ranmaru remarks that Haruka’s late and asks if she got lost. No, it was just because of work. Reiji tries to pump everyone up, but the others ignore him. Camus wants to know more about the sweets and Ranmaru the bentou. Haruka wants to work hard for the new song.

Haruka is awoken to the sound of an alarm. She tries to reach out to shut it up but feels a bigger hand on top of hers. This snaps her awake. It’s 6 AM. Haruka tries to remember yesterday: first she met the senpai, then had beef stew with Kurosaki-senpai, played with the cats, watched a DVD, and then…blush. She thinks about how her time with Ranmaru was minimal until he gave her a key. He has to go out on location a lot, but she is happy when they get to spend time together. Haruka hasn’t fully gotten used to her life yet. (Seriously, Shining allows this!? Not to mention paparazzi…) Haruka tries to sneak out of bed, but Ranmaru pulls her back. Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru MorningHe falls back asleep. She decides to stay like that for a while longer. Ranmaru murmurs that this is heaven. He snuggles up to her and even licks her neck. Of course, she’s embarrassed. Ranmaru laughs and apologizes for teasing her. After they get out of bed and stretch, he kisses Haruka good morning. She shyly looks away: “G…good morning, senpai.” Ranmaru tells her to use his name. “Um, good morning, Ra-Ranmaru-san.” He wants to hear it again. As she calls his name again, he kisses her again and then more deeply. He remarks that it’s been a while since they’ve enjoyed a morning together. She smiles and agrees. Ranmaru is delighted to see her smiling face and wants to see more of it. They start heading toward the bed but are interrupted by their hungry cats Tama and Mike. Ranmaru mutters angrily to himself but wants to continue later. Haruka giggles to herself at how cute Ranmaru and the cats are. He pulls her out of bed.

Haruka wants to help with breakfast, but Ranmaru reminds her that she did it yesterday. As she sets the table, Ranmaru asks what to make with the eggs. They have omelets and feed the cats. (There’s also Niko and Ikko, their kittens.) She spots flowers outside.

Haruka decorates the table with flowers. Ranmaru says it’s nice. It feels like he discovers something new everyday with her, like adding color to his world. They enjoy their breakfast.

Ranmaru remarks at how the cats act like they own the place. He’s off to work but hopes Haruka has time tomorrow to discuss the new composition. She’s excited to start. He warns Haruka to not answer the door for any salesperson. She’s not a child, she protests, but Ranmaru worries about her. He tells Haruka he loves her and kisses her goodbye. She uses his name to say farewell. Ranmaru’s a little surprised but happy. After he leaves, Haruka starts thinking about the next song. Ikko knocks over some CDs, and seeing them all makes Haruka decide the composition has to be rock.

At the recording room, Haruka is being formal since it’s work. Ranmaru wants her to be her usual self. She thinks about how Ranmaru originally did not want a partner and was kind of scary. But she saw his live and was captivated by him, and he ended up teaching her a lot. Ranmaru tells her to have more confidence in herself. She’s grown as a composer and as a person. He’s leaving it to her to discover a new side of him; he’s changed a bit from before. Together, they’ll aim for the top.

Ranmaru asks Haruka what she wants him to sing. She says rock. Ranmaru wasn’t expecting that response. She explains that rock is important to him and his fans and they can create a different type of rock. He thought maybe he would like a more idol-like song. He’s been thinking lately he’s not giving it all as an idol. He realized it after singing Haruka’s song at the festival. Unlike the others, he was scouted, but he never dreamed of being an idol. It was just a job. Now, however, he feels like he should do whatever he has the ability to do. So Haruka can’t decide between a cool idol song and wild rock. Ranmaru suggests sitting at the keyboard and letting the music flow. Haruka closes her eyes and concentrates.

She plays an idol-like song. Ranmaru is a bit surprised since he had a vague idea but now has (happily) found this melody inside him. Haruka will work hard on it.

A few days later, Haruka submits some BGM at the agency.

On her way home, she receives a message from Ranmaru thanking her for today’s bentou. He’s done with work for the day. Since replies that she’s heading to the studio to work on the song.

Several hours later, Haruka is still working on the composition. She so wrapped up in the song that she doesn’t notice Ranmaru come in. She screams so loudly he jumps. He reminds her she texted him she was coming here to work. She didn’t mean for Ranmaru to show up, so is there some reason he’s waiting for her? Yep. Ranmaru is holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Bouquet 1“Take it.” Haruka thinks they’re beautiful and asks if he got them from work. Ranmaru shyly and awkwardly admits he bought them for her. She’s surprised. He thought of flowers on his way home. Although he shouldn’t have bought them before the train station since he had a hell of a time hiding them. Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Bouquet 2He remarks that she doesn’t seem to know what day it is, but he only remembered when he saw the date, too. It’s been one month since they started living together. (Awww, how sweet.) Haruka finally realizes it and apologizes for not having thought of it. He stutters that it’s also a thank you and I’m-counting-on-you present.Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Bouquet 2Haruka finally takes the flowers. She’s overjoyed since they’re her favorites, but Ranmaru said they just fit her. He has to go soon, so he embraces her, crushing the flowers. Haruka says it’s still surprising that Ranmaru would remember such an anniversary. He’s shocked, too, since he never even cared about his own birthday. But he wants to celebrate many special days with her. She’ll do her best, she says, which makes Ranmaru laugh. They’ll make every day a special day. He’s looking forward to the song, and Haruka thinks to herself how a new melody was born.

Haruka arrives at a busy studio to see Ranmaru. He’s been taking on more idol-like work. Ai suddenly appears and asks what she’s doing. She explains, but he wonders why she would be observing now. Ranmaru calls her over. He’s doing a CM for “Airy Sweet Chocolate”. Ai notes that it’s rare for Ranmaru to accept such a job. Did he just want to eat some? Of course not, Ranmaru replies. Ai wonders about the casting, since the script requires a “refreshing idol” and a “soft, sweet smile”. Ai bluntly asks Haruka if Ranmaru can do it. She wants to see Ranmaru try. Ai is still not convinced, but Ranmaru retorts that the most important thing is the heart. Ai replies that Ranmaru can’t run away anymore. He mentions they’ll be bringing in a bunch of bananas, but Ranmaru is lost as to what it means. They start getting annoyed with each other but Ai quickly switches to work mode. The client explains the CM, and they start the bubble machine. Ai goes first. Then Ranmaru goes up. Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru ChocolateAi quietly asks Ranmaru about his pose. After they go back and forth again, the cameraman requests Ranmaru show his face. Ranmaru’s ready to get serious now, and Ai mutters he should have been serious from the start. And, behold!Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Idol Smile Everyone is speechless. Ai bluntly questions as to how this expression is different from the previous. Ranmaru explains this is his “soft, sweet smile”. Ai is not impressed and demonstrates a proper soft smile. The clients want to tweak the concept to showing off the difference between Ai’s gap appeal and Ranmaru’s coolness. Ranmaru requests he try again but is denied.

The clients are satisfied, so the shooting is finished. Haruka gives Ranmaru a drink. Ranmaru is a little different from normal. Ai and Haruka chat for a moment before Ranmaru returns asking if Ai has some free time. Ai doesn’t want to go out to eat, but Ranmaru demands he come anyway.

The three are at a cafe. It’s extremely awkward. Ai wants to know what Ranmaru wants. He claims he doesn’t want a favor anymore. More silence. Ranmaru asks Ai how if his song is coming along. Yep, smoothly. More silence. Ai is annoyed and wants Ranmaru to just say what he wants to say already. He finally asks what Ai thought of the shoot. Ai doesn’t believe there’s anything to discuss since it’s over; the clients were happy. Ranmaru isn’t satisfied. He wants to be like the other idols. Ai, in his usual matter-of-fact way, replies that his idol self is created by the fans. He doesn’t think about the reason. He just responds to the fans’ wishes. Ai leaves while the other two process his words.

The next day, Haruka is at home while Ranmaru is out at work. She thinks about Ranmaru being affected by Ai’s words.

She heads to the agency to work on Ranmaru’s song. She runs into Tomo. They chat about work, then Tomo pulls out the new DVD from the Christmas live. Haruka has reserved a copy but forgot it has come out. Haruka thinks back on the live and what it means to be idol-like.

A few days later, both Haruka and Ranmaru have the day off. Unfortunately, it’s raining, so they aren’t going out. He’s strumming his bass unenthusiastically. She tries to cheer him up by asking him to listen to the song’s arrangement. He agrees. It’s sounding good, but he’ll help her with the arrangement. His mood noticeably better, Ranmaru wants to know if there’s anything Haruka wants to do. She’s just happy being together. He smiles but still wants her to request something. She then suggests a DVD. He goes to make coffee, but Haruka secretly puts in the Christmas live. They snuggle on the sofa as the movie starts. Ranmaru is like, “This is what you want to watch?”, and when he comes onstage, “I’m right here, you know.” Haruka says the performance is wonderful, but Ranmaru thinks it was a little weak. He wonders what Haruka likes about him. Haruka answers it’s his strength to move forward. He smiles and hugs her. She wants to stay like that for a while longer. Haruka keeps wanting to rewatch Ranmaru’s parts. She studies the DVD carefully as both a fan and as a composer.

It’s still raining. Ranmaru lets her fall asleep in his arms.

From onstage, Ranmaru gets the crowd pumped up at a livehouse. Haruka dashes in just as the intro song is playing. Ranmaru keeps firing up the audience and proclaims he has a special announcement. He has a new song coming out. He ends the live by thanking them.

After the show, Haruka hears people talking about the show. One guy believes the new song is going to be rock, and another talks about how Ranmaru’s image has been different lately. Haruka thinks about how Ranmaru really is the rock-type rather than an idol-type.

At home after the live, Haruka thinks about the fans’ comments. When Ranmaru comes in, she recommends adding more rock to the song. He’s been having doubts, too, so he proposes taking break on the song. Haruka is conflicted. Ranmaru wonders if it’s just his ego that wants to sing this song. His fans want rock, and he’s already decided to treasure his fans more. Neither of them want a half-baked song. They have a little time, so Ranmaru suggests they think some more.

Another two weeks go by. Haruka is working at the studio. Both of them have been conflicted. He’s been busy with work, so it’s been several days since she’s seen Ranmaru.

Haruka leaves the recording room. She’s been working on other jobs. She sighs and is greeted by Ai. He’s been waiting for her. Ranmaru hasn’t been acting like himself lately, and Ai thought it maybe had something to do with what he said. Ai admires the honest sound that Ranmaru and Haruka make with their music. Haruka tells Ai it isn’t his fault. Ai then confuses Haruka by talking about how he himself can only use his data to make judgments, but Ranmaru is frank. He can expand himself. Ai thinks Ranmaru can find the answer. Haruka does, too. Ai gives Haruka some data about Ranmaru. She takes it and puts it in her bag.

Tama greets Haruka when she gets home. Ranmaru is already back, much to Haruka’s surprise. He mentions that Haruka’s text made it seem like she was heading straight home. She lies and says she fell. He freaks out, asking to see her injury. He examines her feet. Haruka says it was just a little fall. Ranmaru is relieved. She tries to distract Ranmaru by helping with dinner, but he suspects she’s hiding something. He reminds her they’re partners and have nothing to hide. Haruka then tells him everything. He’s relieved that that was all it was about, but her problems are his problems. He’s also put his thoughts in order, and they’ll continue with the song.

Ranmaru is having a meeting with agency employees. He announces his new song will be a cool number with dancing. The crowd is skeptical. The song is incomplete, so how can he master the timing? He proclaims he’ll work to the point of death. Haruka is still uneasy after the meeting. She doesn’t know if the song will be accepted by his fans. He will do something about it, so she should just believe in him. He believes in her song. Things may be hard, but he’s counting on her. She agrees.

A few days later, they’re at the studio. Ranmaru’s on location right now but wants to start dance practice tomorrow. His schedule will be very tight, but they’re both working hard.

The next day, dance lessons start. Haruka is fixing the song. She shows up a little early. Ranmaru is putting his full effort into mastering the choreography.Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Practice He greets her and inquires about the song. It’s not quite done yet. Together they work on matching the dance steps and arrangement. When he finally stops, he is out of breath. Ranmaru notices Haruka looks terrible. She admits she stayed up late to work on the song. He orders her to go home, but she begs to watch him for a little longer. He refuses, accusing her of overworking. Haruka refuses to back down. Ranmaru picks her up and starts carrying Haruka out of there. She’s thrashing in resistance. Suddenly, the door opens. Ai calls for them to leave since it’s now his reserved time. He’s been watching them for 10 minutes. Ranmaru threateningly tells him not to say anything about what he saw, but Ai requests an exchange: he wants to see Ranmaru dance. Ai claps after the performance then asks Haruka to play it again. This time, Ai is going to dance. Ranmaru is stunned that Ai mastered the dance after seeing it only once. Haruka notices that something seems different. Ranmaru is ticked off, but Ai notes that Haruka has already figured it out. Ai expects the real thing to be different, and Ranmaru declares he’ll show the real thing at the live. Ranmaru and Haruka quickly leave. Ai wonders to himself how far Ranmaru will rise if he made that much progress already.

Ranmaru is silent on the way home. Haruka pipes up and points out that he has many fans, and they are looking forward to his performance. Ranmaru realizes he has to perform as himself and not imitate other idols. He’ll show a new side of him but as himself. He wants Haruka to join him on his journey. As the tears start flowing, Haruka admits she’s the one who has been doing things halfway. Ranmaru still believes in her song.

Haruka is back at the recording studio.  She’s finally done and ready for Ranmaru to listen. Ranmaru praises the song and embraces her in jubilation. She gives the finished product to him.

It’s all up to Ranmaru now. The two chat on their way home. She’s looking forward to the live. It’s been a while since they’ve had the chance to spend some time together. She’s still a bit nervous, so Ranmaru asks if they should hold hands. Haruka mentions being together is like a dream. As they walk home hand-in-hand, he states she has thin fingers. He then says he has to start working on the lyrics next.

Fast forward a few days. It’s the last meeting before the live.

After the meeting, it’s rehearsal time. Ranmaru won’t let Haruka watch. Suddenly the other members of Quartet Night appears. Ai is like, “It’s a pain, so I’ll get straight to the point. It’s a coincidence meeting you here.” In their own way, both Reiji and Camus are surprised to hear Ranmaru’s dancing. Ai is looking forward to it, though.

It’s the day of the live. Ranmaru announces it’s the last song. He sings “Not Bad“.

Friend Ending:

The crowd cheers. It was unexpected, but they loved it. Ranmaru thanks the crowd. He assures the crowd that the rock inside him is alive and well. The audience loves his music, no matter what form it takes. Ai appears. Ranmaru’s performance was beyond his expectations. Haruka didn’t even see him appear. Ai repeats that Ranmaru went beyond Ai’s data. He can go beyond his limits, unlike Ai. He continues, saying logic doesn’t always work with humans. Haruka is confused, but Ai leaves.

After the live, Haruka meets up with Ranmaru at the after-party. They congratulate and thank each other. He tells her the lyrics were mainly of his feelings for her. And did she get the secret message? Haruka basically says she can’t take credit for the lyrics. Ranmaru jokes that he’ll redo them as many times until the slow-witted Haruka understands. He embraces her then whispers that will be during their private time. He secretly kisses her. Haruka is worried they’ll be spotted, and they are. Haruka thought he left, but Ai never said he was leaving. Ranmaru not too subtly tries to get Ai to leave, but Ai expects some hospitality. Ai then thanks Ranmaru for the ticket. Ai proclaims the success came from his data, which confuses Ranmaru. Haruka tells Ai they never looked at the data. Ranmaru opens the envelope and is amazed. It’s a really thorough and accurate report on Ranmaru, his fans, and his music. Ai then says it was a wonderful live and he learned a lot. Ranmaru thanks him. Ai mentions that Reiji and Camus also saw the show. Ranmaru will now work hard as an idol. Ai then brings up the chocolate CM, but Ranmaru proclaims he’s been practicing his idol smile in front of a mirror every day since then. This is news to Haruka. Ranmaru and Ai go back and forth about the idol smile in a half-joking, half-serious way.Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru & Ai The members of Quartet Night are both allies and rivals. They have their solo pursuits but also group endeavors. Haruka smiles at the two. Ranmaru light-heartedly asks what so funny and pokes her. Suddenly Ai asks isn’t bad for them as lovers to be doing that. Ranmaru and Haruka are taken aback, and Ai continues: what if he told somebody? Ai then goes on for a while, and Ranmaru just wants him to shut up. Haruka tries to get them to calm down.

True Love Ending:

Ranmaru asks the crowd what they thought. They cheer. He shouts at them to follow him.

Haruka go to his waiting room.

She enters. Ranmaru is chatting with some support staff. After they leave, Haruka tells Ranmaru how great the show was. The fans seemed to like it, too. They’re both so glad everything worked out. No matter what, Ranmaru is Ranmaru. He’ll treasure his fans. Haruka is so happy that she’s crying. He kisses her cheek. They’ll head home afterwords, and there is still much to discuss.

Haruka thinks about everything as she heads home.

The next day, the couple takes the day off. They take the train then the bus. They are on the bus for so long that they are the only two left. Ranmaru finally tells Haruka they’re getting off. She’s lost but follows him.

He takes her to a beautiful garden with lots of roses. It’s a place that belongs to someone his mother knows. He played here a lot as a kid. He treated it as a jungle when he was younger but can finally appreciate its beauty. They sit at the bench as Ranmaru talks about himself. He used to play the bass for his little sister at this bench. Thinking back, those were the happiest times. He can finally remember his past and feels like he understands his father a little more. That’s why he brought her here. He left his family to make money and eventually became an idol but didn’t really care about being one. He’s changed now because of Haruka. Ranmaru wants to make Haruka’s dream come true. Haruka replies she has confidence now because of him. He swears to make her happy and asks her to follow him, the same phrase he used at the live. He asks if she understands what he means. She’s confused, but wait, this is…this…could this be?! Her face gets red. “In times like these, it’s better to just say ‘yes’. Just go with your heart,” he says. “Or are you confused?” he continues. Haruka blurts out yes as Ranmaru laughs, asking her which one she is replying to. Of course she means the first. He kisses her lightly as a sign of their promise. He adds a couple of more kisses. He has something to give her, he says, and then pulls a ring out of his pocket. Ranmaru designed it just for her. It’s rose-cut and won’t interfere when she’s working. He finally puts the ring on her finger.Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret Kurosaki Ranmaru Proposal Haruka is crying again. He’d rather see her smile. They tell each other “I love you” and kiss. Haruka thinks about how this is their start of their eternal happiness.
