Summary:

At her new place, Aoi’s bathtub leaks and floods her downstairs neighbor. The person living there turns out to be her favorite idol, Ren! But Ren is very different from his on-stage persona, and he one-sidely announces he’s going to sleep in Aoi’s room…. and somehow she ends up as his “pet”?!

Review:Not Safe for Work

The first thing I noticed was the art. While A 1LDK that Comes with a Super-Sadistic Prince isn’t Haruse’s first professional work, the wide gap between the eyes and young, flat face certainly doesn’t give the aura of ultimate manga beauty. Plus Aoi has almost a loli-like look on the cover, so I’m already pretty down on the art. Inside isn’t much better, with plenty of images of Aoi’s eyes overtaking a face of what looks like a middle school student than a college student. The backgrounds are also minimalist, just using screentones to hide this fact. A lot of artists go through a similar phase with their art, so it’s hard to judge Haruse too harshly. It’s just that with so much competition out there, the manga is already starting in a hole. (No pun intended.)

Aoi’s neighbor turns out to be her favorite celebrity, but he decides to just sleep with her as both a way to shut her up and because he’s mad about his apartment being flooded. (Okay, the second part, I would be really mad too.) Ren finds Aoi’s innocent reactions interesting, so he makes her his pet — in other words, a sex slave. She has always run away from intimacy ever since a painful encounter with her ex-boyfriend, so Ren decides he’s going to “train” Aoi. As you might expect from a sadist, he is quite forceful and tells her she’s not special, let alone a girlfriend. Before that, he even wraps his hand around Aoi’s neck to get her to do what he commands.

Dear lord, I hope this guy never had pets…

While I could go off on that $%*(@ moment, I’m just going to move on. But be aware that even if it’s just for one panel, this abuse is found in the story.

As she realizes how serious he is about his modeling career, Aoi decides to be Ren’s faithful and protective dog. Then Aoi’s ex appears, there’s an accident, mommy issues, yada yada. Then we get to the stupid ending. If you’re a regular reader of my reviews, you know that I tend to avoid spoilers like the plague sometimes, but I don’t give a crap for a series like this. Because here’s another bad lesson the manga teaches us: if you sleep with someone and then they announce they’re leaving, then you should wait forever, even if they never call you for years! Or if you discover who it is you love, you should disappear without any contact for a good three, four years. Even if Ren’s behavior is explained by the “DON’T TOUCH MY IDOLS!!” fanaticism of Japan, that’s still bad form to say the least.

I guess the only thing worse would be if Aoi was with a decent guy and got netorare’d.

Final Comments:

The whole manga looks and feels like a crappy version of Peach Heaven! At least that series has plenty of comedy and the fact Momoko gets some victories over her “master”. This is just… In short, just say no.

Haruse’s Noo… His scent keeps turning me on! has also been released by Manga Reborn. I’m Living With My Perverted Manager -Your Body Pays The Rent- was released by Renta.

Based on the cover I can see why you have issues with the art. Her mouth doesn’t look right. Sounds bad, even if Haruse’s manga titles made me laugh. Disclaimer: please do not choke your pets.
