Game Diaries – Final Fantasy VII New Threat Arrange Episode XIII

Final Fantasy VII

If you don’t know what my Diaries are, please go here. Spoilers ahoy!

Otherwise, let’s go!

I headed straight for Rocket Town. I’ll come back to fight some of the monsters in the area later.

Rocket Town. I think this is going to be one of the most heavily-changed parts in Remake.

First, there is the issue of Cid. Although we all love his $@#$* language, this doesn’t work in a voiced project. Plus, he is verbally abusive to Shera. (In New Threat, his language towards her is even harsher.) It was pretty bad when FFVII was released 20 years ago with blocky characters with text boxes, but realistic, voiced characters? Yeah, whoa. I think Vincent in particular wouldn’t want to see one of the first things after waking up is a man yelling cruel things at a woman. And then, “Hey, I’m done yelling at the woman who is basically my servant, looking for new members to fight Shinra?” I mean, almost no one in this new AVALANCHE is innocent, but geez, no one has second thoughts about this swearing, chain-smoking, mentally abusive guy?

Next, the Tiny Bronco. No way that that plane is going to take off (and then float) with nine people on it. If it does manage to have that many, I can totally see a fight breaking out over who gets the seats. At most, what, about 3 in the main area? The Tiny Bronco would have to become the Not-So-Tiny Bronco in Remake. Or something. Maybe explain more about why the head of Shinra is suddenly reduced to asking to take their old pilot’s pet project? And how a truck manages to hit a Shinra executive?

I can also see a location being added after Rocket Town. By the time Temple of the Ancients roles around, Cid (and Vincent too to an extent) in particular wouldn’t have known Aerith for very long. Something to make the feel fully united… even Cait Sith. Perhaps the ruins of Banora or something? After all, the Gold Saucer part is more focused on Cait Sith and Aerith. (I imagine Remake will eliminate the dating sim for full effect on this part.)

I’m jumping ahead too much.

I encountered my first glitch here. My game froze just as the timer in the rocket flashback hit 0:00. Cid curses, and it wouldn’t move on to the FMV that is supposed to play.

Luckily, I saved just before this, so I didn’t lose much progress. Tested it again, and yep, softlocked. As in the case for most of the extended flashbacks, Sega Chief put in a short/skip version, so I could continue on.

The Palmer fight.

Um, well, I guess the main thing is to keep your HP high for his final attack? Wow, a little too close for comfort there. Vincent’s HP recovery is nice, but his VIT/SPR are too weak to be a tank for the group. He’s supposed to have a good MAG, but he is still awful. Probably nice for Wutai, but that’s about it.

Never mind Vincent. It seems like the game itself was so offended by Cid’s potty mouth that it decided to crash.

      What I should have said:
“Keep sitting your ass down in that chair and launch your goddamn ROCKET!”

Ah, The Cid story. He has a wife, and that was the biggest surprise for me since Enix nowadays prefer their characters to be hot bland bishies.
and Palmer, I love this guy. All the secondary antagonists are all great in FF7 including the Shinra guys and the TURKS guys. haha

Yeah, it’s easy to forget or gloss over, but for a relatively small playable characters list, the game features quite a few older characters. (By older, of course, I mean not teenagers.)
If AC is any indication, the Turks will probably be even cooler in Remake. Although I wonder if Palmer will keep all his taunting actions…

Oh yeah, the remake. They might the older characters look younger, lol. I dunno, I fear for the worst with the remake. haha.
I just hope they incorporate more of Vincent’s backstory, the one expanded in Dirge of Cerberus (as bad as it is, lol), into the main game. Also, give Zack a more definite presence in it.
