Game Diaries – Final Fantasy VII New Threat Arrange Episode XV

Final Fantasy VII

If you don’t know what my Diaries are, please go here. Spoilers ahoy!

Otherwise, let’s go!

… I might not have had to check out all the flyers? The person at the counter basically said, “I forget where I hid them, so take the rewards.”

Well, it turns out I didn’t need to buy a Razor Ring, since I had an even better weapon in my stock. Must have stolen it somewhere.

First, I went hunting for a couple of new Enemy Skills. Death Force is learned from the giant turtles nearby, but their defenses are sky high in this version. Plus, they can cast Barrier/MBarrier and cause Poison/Silence. It was a long, drawn-out fight when my characters were often doing 75, 100 damage. Magic Hammer has been changed to Vital Hammer to restore HP, not MP.

Now, in the original game, thanks to all the guides, you know exactly how to prepare for the Yuffie solo Pagoda climb. Well, here, with status effects a-plenty, I didn’t know what to expect. The most dangerous status effect is Paralyze (and Stop, but that’s much rarer so far). I decided to set up Yuffie with Added Effect-Time in her weapon just in case someone could be Stopped and the Jem Ring as her accessory. Otherwise, I equipped her with most of the standard Materia with Magic Counter-Restore to hopefully get some quick heals. I knew everyone but Godo could be Morphed into good items, so my goal was to get their nice loot.

Well, this one was easy: L5 Suicide. (It’s been changed from L4 to make it easier for players to calculate evidently.) Otherwise, the only hard part was waiting for him to be Morphed.

Basically the same strategy here. However, with all the castings of Slow, I just didn’t have the patience to wait to Morph one of the Shakes. Thought maybe I’d take a chance and one would survive, but no such luck.

Speed: 2x

Could I go three for three? Unfortunately, she was immune to physical attacks, and I didn’t include Magic Materia in Yuffie’s setup. I haven’t learned any of the amazing Enemy Skills yet (Aqualung, Beta, Trine), so my options were very limited. Turns out I had an unlikely savior, but I guess she’s impossible to Morph. And don’t ask me why when I realized she was immune to physical damage that I thought she could still be Morphed. The brain cells in my head weren’t connecting.

Four for four?

Nope. That damage, holy cow. I changed my accessory to the Star Pendant and did some other minor retooling. So I won the second time, right? Nope. A couple of major hits KO’d Yuffie before she could set up.

The Protect Ring game me Wall as I tried to figure out the best strategy for this guy. Even then… wow, too close for comfort. I was not expecting to be Berserked. That last few seconds was just me chanting, “PleasepleasepleasecomeonYuffiegoYuffiejustonemore!!!”

Now, Godo. This time, I could remove Morph and Sense to give me a couple of extra spots, including Added Cut-Destruct. Could Yuffie defeat her father in one try?

Speed: 2.5x

This… was bad. I won, but I’ll be the first to admit I did not play this well. My only defense is that I was feeling ill. I stupidly cast Reflect on Godo when I meant Yuffie. I didn’t try a Dirty Bomb until well into the fight, and again, Slow spells were really a pain. Magic Counter-Restore wasn’t going off when it wanted to either. I recommend going into this fight with Added Effect-Time in Yuffie’s armor along with Elemental-Heal for Water protection. (Or win an Adaman Bangle from the Adamantoise.) White Cape would have prevented Frog. If I could easily soft reset, I probably would have. But even with my less-than-optimal setup, I just made some bad, bad decisions. Anyway, Leviathan is mine.

Despite not being a Game Over, I guess I’ll count my two losses. Will do some grinding and errand-running before heading toward the Temple.

KO KOunter: 36

After reading your diary, I was actually motivated to play the game, lol. The Yuffie pagoda challenge was easy since I just spammed Enemy Skill on all of them. I do hope the remake makes this better, maybe actually make the enemies the people you talk to in the pagoda.
The flyers are hard to complete if you missed them once. I believe you can do them all at the end of Disc 2. I didn’t get all too. 🙁

Yay, I convinced someone to play! Mission accomplished! ?
When in doubt, Enemy Skill is the answer. Big Guard + Aqualung/Trine is amazing for most of the game.
The flyers are really sneaky. You only get two chances to complete it, both during intense parts of the game.

In your defense, the game does eventually spell it out for you, and all you have to do is fight 4 battles between each hint. So all you’re doing is skipping some random fights.
But if you follow some guides/videos, I think you can do it with as few as 2 caught chocobos and no racing.

Hope you are feeling better. I often neglect magic in games (due to the MP cost) so physical immune enemies catch me out.

This was done a while okay, so I’m fine now. Thanks for the well-wishes thought!
I’m right with you there. Magic is so easy to neglect. It often takes longer to use physical attacks, but it often also takes a while just to test all the different spells.
