About:

I’ve picked up a few Fire Emblem games over the years, but I’ve never actually played one. In fact, I ended up selling a few of them off. But I heard that this set was getting hard to find, and I managed to snag a copy, especially since reviews of this game were so positive. Only GameStop had a preorder bonus, so it didn’t matter that I got my copy at Best Buy.

Thoughts:

Box reminds me of Bravely Default. Probably a lot of special editions have the same black box with an image, but that’s the first thing that came to mind. I like how the back is just an image and doesn’t waste space explaining what’s inside.

Everything is neatly organized. A lot of times, I’m fighting to pull things out, but here, the contents are arranged neatly. I was really impressed. It’s a small thing, but I appreciate how easily everything slide out and rested in the insert.

First up, a soundtrack CD containing some game tracks. The CD itself reminded me of some of the Sailor Moon releases. Nice design. It came with plastic around it.

Next up is the item I was least excited for: a 2020 calendar. I mean, does anybody go, “Gee, I wasn’t going to buy this special edition, but it comes with a calendar!!” But I have to say, it was nicer than I expected. Each page has a calendar with a character portrait, and the other side has a beautiful image. The calendar is one of those stand-up ones, and it comes in its own slip. I wish they had dropped the calendar idea entirely. Instead, use the space for a character quote. The pictures are too pretty to retire after a year, and besides, it’s still only July. How many people are going to remember and actually WANT to pull this out in five months to display the calendar? “Oh, gee, it’s January 1st. I better open up my collector’s edition of Fire Emblem: Three Houses to get the calendar out!” Again, though, really pretty pictures. Didn’t study them much in case of spoilers.

Steelbook up next. I don’t know if I just assumed the regular case was included or if I saw a picture of the European edition (who did get both cases), but I was disappointed not to have a regular case. It’s a pretty cool image too:

But the steelbook is absolutely gorgeous. My pictures do not do it justice. I don’t know much about the story of the game, but the steelbook provides some hints about the game’s church. Beautiful with the (I’m assuming) angels, the dragons, the priestesses… and the shattering of this artwork on the other side. Steelbook fans won’t be disappointed.

Finally, the art book. Like the CD, it was sealed. It’s a hardcover book, and it is the reason the box is so big. Glad it’s not one of those dinky no-bigger-than-a-manga artbooks. I didn’t look at it too closely in case of spoilers, but there are character designs (early and final), enemies, locations, etc. Each section has some of those lacy pages, in between each section I believe. It’s a nice book, with one major caveat: all notes are untranslated. Yes, like most similar Japanese books, names and stuff are written in English, but any notes highlighting aspects or naming parts is left alone. It would be one thing if not everything was translated, but when you have large chunks of texts that could have easily been erased or had text added to the whitespace, it feels lazy. I will say it’s better that this is an actual art book and not what other companies try to pass off as an art book when it’s just really renders that you can find on the web printed out and collected in a book. This art book looks like one you’d go buy in a store… except for the fact that most people won’t be able to read it!

Final Comments:

The Seasons of Warfare Edition is a pretty nice collection. It may be slightly overpriced since there’s no regular game case and the art book has limited English text, but it doesn’t really matter since it’s sold out at all major retailers anyway. I think I’m slightly envious of the European special edition, as even though the calendar is better than I thought, the pins fit better thematically since the game is about the Three Houses. Replace the calendar part with character quotes or stats and I’d been happier with it over the pins. Still, no regular game case stinks since both the steelbook and standard game case have great art by the lady who designed Uta no Prince-sama‘s characters.

That’s pretty good looking, makes me curious what we got here in Europe though.
Shame for not including the oringal case. Quite a few retailers here will givethat along if you ask though.
But most of all have fun with the game!

Europe got pins instead of a calendar and soundtrack is on a special USB stick. Plus the game case. Packaging is also different — looks a little smaller.
Thanks! The game looks really good! 🙂

Definitely looks really cool! It’s awesome to finally see Fire Emblem really become mainstream. I suppose it started with Awakening, but this one really seems to have the big time. The 100 dollar version definitely seems to come with a lot of cool content so it looks worth the purchase to me. I hope you enjoy the game a lot as well

That stained glass effect there is just stunning. Wish more official released had that kind of holy artwork!

Ohhhh snap you managed to get a copy? That’s awesome! I somehow snagged Fates SE but I’m really liking FE3H much more. I think it’ll be a great venture into the series especially if you enjoy Persona as a lot of this game utilizes similar activities to grant stat boosts on the battle field.

Great game. I have sunk almost 40 hours into it thus far. Fire Emblem is great. You really should play the games, rather than buy them and them sell them off untouched haha.

The special edition comes with a calendar? Noooo. I was a fool in getting the digital version. Calendars are worth the price of admission.

See, stick with physical copies. Now how will you ever know when April Fool’s Day is or what day of the week Christmas falls on?

And this Fire Emblem I think I’m gonna keep!
