News – The Seven Deadly Sins & Yowamushi Pedal win Kodansha Manga Awards

ANN reports US licensed series The Seven Deadly Sins and Yowamushi Pedal tied for best shounen manga in the 39th Kodansha Manga Awards. The first series is simu-published by Crunchyroll, and Kodansha USA releases the print volumes. Yowamushi Pedal was recently acquired by Yen Press. The winners for best shoujo manga, general manga, and the special award are not licensed in the US.

I really like The Seven Deadly Sins. It’s a series that seems like it would be rather typical shounen fare, but it puts enough twists to make it fresh. I never paid much attention to Yowamushi Pedal until Yen Press announced their license and so many people were ecstatic. This news makes me more interested now.

News – Seven Seas Licenses 3 New Series

Seven Seas continues to make some fabulous acquisitions. In the last few days, they have announced three new titles: Franken Fran by KIGITSU Katsuhisa, Not Lives by KARASUMA Wataru, and Orange by TAKANO Ichigo.

Franken Fran, as one might expect, is a shounen series with inspiration from Frankenstein. Not Lives is a “got-sucked-into-a-game-world” story with a gender-bender twist. Orange is a shoujo romance with a time travel element.

By far, I am most excited by Orange. Coincidentally, I have a review lined up, but you can probably guess that I’m going to recommend it. But what you are looking forward to?
