One Hot Manga

Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru Volume 1

Kodansha Comics announced several new titles yesterday, but I wanted to point out one in particular: Burn the House Down. This is now the official English title of Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru, an unlicensed manga I highlighted back in 2020. Yes, another title on my wish list has been picked up!

Burn the House Down - Anzu See End

You can read the first chapter here. Volume 1 is scheduled for June 28th, so preorder links should go live soon. I’d love to see it get a print release, so check it out if you’re interested in a new mystery manga!

And yes, I couldn’t resist another fire pun with this post’s title.

Calling all aspiring manga creators!

The Otaku Box

I’ve been given the opportunity to review a few indie comics on here, and I’ve also been asked about becoming a creator before. Well, for all those folks, here’s your chance! You could get your manga/comic featured in The Otaku Box.

The full press release is included here, but I also emailed Joe Delbridge of GeekSmash to ask a few additional questions for those contest entrants:

1. When does the contest end and when will winners be contacted or announced (approximately)?
— We’re thinking this can be an ongoing thing. We don’t want to limit the opportunities for the creators.

2. Is this contest open to creators worldwide? (With English works, of course.)
— Yes, it’s open to worldwide creators as long as it’s in English.

3. Are there any restrictions on age rating or content?
— Somewhat. We don’t want pornographic content, but edgy is encouraged.

So if you’re interested, please read the press release for more details and to learn how to enter: (more…)

One Down…

Peach Heaven! Volume 1

While Daiyamanga generally focuses on manga reviews, I also try to highlight some of the (generally lesser known) gems that are only available in Japan. The first manga I introduced, posted two years ago this month, was Momoiro Heaven!

In case you missed it, Kodansha Comics announced the simulpub of Nihei’s APOSIMZ, and the digital licenses of the manga series The Full-Time Wife Escapist (Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu), House of the Sun (Taiyou no Ue), and… Peach Heaven! (Momoiro Heaven!).

You can read the first chapter here. The first digital volume is already available at all the major outlets like Amazon.

Just goes to show you: don’t give up. Now make sure you support Kodansha and the creators! Especially all you House of the Sun / Taiyou no Ue fans. I know there are a lot of you, so perhaps a physical release — and forĀ Peach Heaven! — isn’t out of the realm of possibilities?
