Three for KH3: Proud Mode

Kingdom Hearts III

This is part of my Kingdom Hearts III special. This is the Proud Mode (aka spoileriffic) version. This review is made for those of you who fall into any or all of the following categories:

  • You’ve finished KH3, including seeing the secret ending.
  • You don’t care if the ending or anything else is spoiled.
  • You just want to freely talk about the game.

If you belong in this group, I hope you will read on!

Three for KH3

Kingdom Hearts III

So I just got the Platinum trophy for Kingdom Hearts III. I have a lot of things to say. But how should I say them? I usually try to be spoiler-free or spoiler-light in my reviews, but how much should I reveal? What is a good balance between talking about the game and keeping it open for different audiences? Some people may not have played a Kingdom Hearts game before while others have played through all of them multiple times. I thought about using spoiler tags and headings, those aren’t always perfect. I mean, I got spoiled even though I was avoiding spoilers. Thanks a lot, jerks who decide to plaster ending images on their YouTube page.

Then it came to me. This is Kingdom Hearts III. Why not three reviews?

Okay, I say three reviews, but that’s a bit of a misnomer. Think of this as one review with a bunch of spoiler tags. They may not be exactly the same, but obviously my overall thoughts will be similar. I don’t expect everyone to read all three. Rather, please choose the one that best fits your comfort level.

Beginner Mode (aka spoiler-free review)

  • You’ve never played a KH game.
  • You’ve casually played one or two KH games a while back.
  • You just don’t want to be spoiled.

Standard Mode (aka minor spoilers review)

  • You’ve played several of the KH games.
  • You are playing KH3 or plan to in the near future.
  • You’ve watched the later or final trailers.

Proud Mode (aka spoileriffic review)

  • You’ve finished KH3, including seeing the secret ending.
  • You don’t care if the ending or anything else is spoiled.
  • You just want to freely talk about the game.

One post will go live over the next three days. So, I hope to see you in at least one of the posts!

It was the best of Kingdom Hearts, it was the worst of Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts III

Man, for a series that features movies that most of us loved as a child, Kingdom Hearts makes you feel old when you think about how long it took to get us here. But FINALLY, today, we finally get the long-sought-after Kingdom Hearts III. (Well, Japan got it a few days ago.)

Some of you may have picked up your copy, and others may be waiting for their deliveryperson to drop off their copy. Either way, let’s dive into what makes every Kingdom Hearts game awesome and also terrible.

Basically the same rules as my Final Fantasy post. Final Mix versions are listed separately, but the HD collections are skipped since they have fewer tweaks than Final Mix games. Spoilers ahoy!

Ludicrous Lucrecia

Lucrecia Crescent

Who are meaner, boys or girls? While middle and high school females are seen as particularly vicious, studies suggest it’s the opposite. However, other studies hint that the long-held belief that women hold grudges longer than men is, in fact, true.

Well, from my personal observations and experience as a female… we women do not forget, and we are incredibly hard on our gender. I could go into the reasons why, from heavily gendered insults to media portrayals to psychological defense mechanisms, but that’s a topic for another day.

In fact, many of you are probably wondering why I brought it up in the first place. It’s quite simple: I hate Hojo from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, but I hate Lucrecia.
